Dating from the nineteenth century, an antique French "Billet Doux" fireplace screen featuring a petit folding writing desk. The frame is solid mahogany with a fatigued gilded finish, and the panel lined with red silk fabric is movable using the brass knob at the top to slide the panel upward. A small shelf rises on the front, forming a writing desk with beautiful hand-painted flowers on the desk piece. A lovely piece to add a touch of French charm to your interiors. The red silk fabric was likely replaced since the original but is still an antique fabric.
